Friends at work

It has been almost two years since I started working at PEER Group. This is the first time I have failed to make friends at a workplace.

My closest friends come from my previous workplaces: Igloo Software and RIM. It was easy to make these friends -we often went for lunches, there were team building events, and a lot of common interests.

I do not know why I have not made friends. Maybe there is little to talk about, gossip is of no interest to me and I actively avoid it. Maybe everyone is older, has families, and just wants to get home (including me). Maybe there is a big professional wall. Maybe there are enough cliques and long-time employees that it’s just hard to make friends.

I do not know. But I know I have not made friends. I have not gone out with people for lunches outside of team or company lunches. It does not bother me, however, it does interest me on how one of the most stress-free, professional places I have ever worked at has resulted in zero contribution to my social circle.
